It will be a long summer both for Iker Casillas and Real Madrid. While both parts publicly say that they want to stay together, it all works differently in private. The captain wants to leave the club and Real Madrid believe that he will not be in the Spanish capital next season, according to Josep Pedrerol.
However, Iker Casillas doesn't want to lose money and would like to get all the salary remaining in his contract -- around €20 million --, that's mainly why he refuses to admit he wants out. By staying committed to the team, Casillas is forcing Real Madrid to pay him the remainder of his contract and then join any other club as a free agent. Florentino Pérez would like Casillas to find a different answer to their problem but that's not likely to happen.
That's why Real Madrid want to sign De Gea as soon as possible. If De Gea gets the starting role in Real Madrid, Casillas will most probably try to find a way out of the club in order to keep alive his chances of participating in the 2016 UEFA Eurocup.
