Iker Casillas leaves Real Madrid after 16 seasons in the club and even more in the academy. The Spanish keeper says good-bye to the controversy around his form and his role within the team by joining FC Porto in the late stages of his career.
Casillas was the world's best goalkeeper once, but his lack of consistency during the last two or three seasons and the controversy with former coach José Mourinho hurt his reputation within the fan base. Still, Casillas has arguably been Real Madrid's best goalkeeper ever and is a legend of the club.
With Casillas gone, Real Madrid will have to sign a goalkeeper to replace him. David De Gea seems to be the favorite but Manchester United do not want to get rid of him, so the latest rumors from Spain indicate that Espanyol goalie Kiko Casilla could indeed be the choice, making Keylor Navas the likely starter next season.
