Espanyol have confirmed the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Kiko Casilla for Real Madrid. He was playing for Espanyol but he started his career playing in Real Madrid's academy. Real Madrid pay €6 million for the keeper.
This is an enigmatic signing given Real's interest in David De Gea. If Madrid finally decide to wait one more year to sign De Gea, Casilla and Keylor navas will be fighting for the starting spot this season, but if Florentino Pérez manages to buy the United goalkeeper, Keylor Navas will likely leave, meaning that Casilla will be used as a reserve.
Casilla is a decent goalkeeper, but he's not ready to be a permanent starter for Real Madrid. He is tall and his aerial game is polished, but he also makes mistakes and is nowhere near Keylor or De Gea's potential as a goalkeeper. However, this is a cheap signing and one that will be useful if United decide to keep De Gea this year to let him go as a free agent in 12 months.
