Real Madrid have confirmed Sergio Ramos' contract extension on their official website. After a summer full of controversy and transfer rumors, Ramos will stay with Madrid for the next five seasons even though it seemed like he was going to join Manchester United.

It made zero sense from Madrid not to give Ramos a new contract. The defender is in his prime and there are not many center-backs available. It's true that his agent did not make things any easier by offering Ramos to some European clubs, but Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos are destined to be together until the very end of the defender's career.

Now, Sergio Ramos will be 34 years old when his new contract expires, meaning that he will likely be going through his decline as a football player. Nobody knows how he will play when he gets older but a five-year contract could be problematic down the road if Ramos can't stop his decline.
