Bad news for Real Madrid. James Rodríguez picked up a small injury that could make him miss Saturday's game against Espanyol. The Colombian was tackled very badly by Peru twice and had to leave the game limping.
Knowing that he will be alright, it would make sense not to start him. Isco is definitely ready to start and fill James' shoes and the Colombian would rotate and enjoy some time to rest. This will most likely be a very long season and Benítez must start thinking long-term with his roster. The Champions League will kick-off next Tuesday as well and it's time for the Spanish coach to start rotating his squad. Rafa Benítez will speak about James' condition in press conference tomorrow.
Either way, Real Madrid need to collect all three points against Espanyol knowing that either Barcelona or Atlético de Madrid will drop points this weekend as they face each other.
UPDATE:
It turns out that Rodriguez has suffered a muscle tear and will require further testing to determine the extent of its severity. Early reports suggest 2-3 weeks out, which has not been confirmed, and could jeopardize his chances of being available for the crucial match versus Atletico Madrid on October 4.
