For the third consecutive time, Zidane's pupils had to overcome the difficulty caused by an early goal from their opponents to win their game and keep the leadership in their group of the Segunda B, in a game played last Saturday at the Di Stéfano stadium. A goal by Mayoral and an own-goal after a great cross by Álvaro Jiménez served Real Madrid Castilla to beat Real Sociedad B by two goals to one and keep a perfect score with four victories in four games.

The lineups

Real Madrid Castilla: Carlos; Fran, León, Lienhart, Tejero; Llorente, Enzo, Ødegaard; Juanjo, Álvaro, Mayoral. Muñoz, Mariano and Cedrés came in later.

Real Sociedad B: Bardaji; Babic, Lapeña, Ibarbia, Prieto; Guridi, Sanz; Rodrigues, Oiarzábal, Muguruza; Bautista. Odriozola, Merquelanz and Olabe came in later.

Match recap

Although the match was played in Madrid, Real Sociedad B took the initiative and ruled the early minutes of the game. They were so intense that Los Blancos did not manage to hold on to the ball as they are used to, and this resulted on a couple of clear chances for the Basques, including a shot that hit the goalpost. Ødegaard and Enzo increased their workrate and retreated a little to move closer to Llorente and Castilla managed to get the possession, but Bautista managed to score the first goal for Real Sociedad B.

Instead of making them increase their intensity, the goal made the Basques get together to defend their advantage, and this may have been the reason why they ended up losing the game. Zidane's pupils are extremely talented, and only an extraordinary defence can stop them if they are given the chance to rule the game. Mayoral scored with a good shot after a cross from Álvaro Jiménez in almost the first time Los Blancos approached the opposite goal, and the scoreboard did not change before the break.

Zidane let Muñoz and Cedrés in to try to increase the pressure on Real Sociedad B's defensive line and fight for the victory, and this resulted on a complete control of the second half by Los Blancos. Had it not been for a certain lack of precision in the final touch, their final advantage could have been bigger, but they only managed to score a second goal, when Álvaro crossed the ball once again from the right wing and Lapeña, when trying to prevent Mayoral from scoring, sent the ball into his own goal.
