Carvajal: "Danilo is playing now but this will be a long season"

Real Madrid decided to sign Danilo away from FC Porto even though they already had one very good right-back on their squad. Benítez has left Carvajal on the bench for Madrid's two games of the season, but Carvajal isn't ready to throw in the towel.

"This is a big challenge, it's good to have a battle for one spot. Danilo is playing now but this will be a long season. I will never give up, this is just how I am. I will never throw in the towel," said Carvajal.

Danilo has performed quite well for Madrid so far and while Benítez likes to rotate his squad, it will not be easy for Carvajal to feature in big matches if Danilo keeps playing like this. Still, one of them will likely play on the left wing if Marcelo gets injured or suspended throughout the season, given Real's lack of a backup left-back.
