Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon D'Or for the fourth time in his career after his performances throughout 2016, when he won the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Supercup with Real Madrid and the UEFA Euro 2016 with Portugal.
If winning those three major trophies wasn't enough, Ronaldo scored more than 50 goals this year, including decisive hat-tricks against Wolfsburg in the past Champions League Quarterfinals to overcome Wolfsburg's 2-0 lead in aggregate and also against Atletico de Madrid at the Vicente Calderon a few weeks back.
Cristiano Ronaldo is now one Ballon D'Or short of Messi's record-breaking five awards. It will be very interesting to see if these two players keep winning football's most prestigious prize year after year, as they also need their teams to perform well in order to have a chance at winning it.
Ronaldo is also expected to win FIFA's The Best next January after FIFA and France Football decided to go separate ways with their awards.
