UEFA have appointed Szymon Marciniak as the referee for Real Madrid's home game against Borussia Dortmund which will be played this Wednesday —20:45 CET—.
This will be the second time officiating a Real Madrid game for Szymon Marciniak, the first being the opening leg against Roma in the Champions League's Round of 16 last season, a match Real Madrid won 0-2.
Real Madrid will need to beat Borussia Dortmund if they want to win their group, as the German side currently hold a two-point advantage after Real's disappointing 3-3 draw to Legia Warsaw last month. Winning the group would be important for Madrid as they would play the return leg of the Round of 16 at the Santiago Bernabeu, although some fans have been pointing out that finishing ahead of Dortmund could actually get Real Madrid a tougher opponent for the next round, given the poor performances of clubs like Bayern Munich or PSG in this group stage.
