Cristiano Ronaldo is the winner of the 2016 Ballon D'Or, according to Mundo Deportivo's Francesc Aguilar. The winner will be announced officially next Monday, but Aguilar says that both Real Madrid and Ronaldo himself have been notified of the outcome.
Ronaldo will have an interview with France Football next Monday in Madrid and will be in the front page of the magazine next Tuesday, per that same report. Leo Messi has finished second in the voting and the third name has not been published although Mundo Deportivo reports that Neymar and Luis Suarez have received a good amount of votes.
The Ballon D'Or is no longer a FIFA Award, as the organization created a new award called The Best. This means that the Ballon D'Or is once again France Football's award, as it was for years when FIFA named their own FIFA World Player.
The winner of FIFA's The Best will be announced in the classic ceremony next January, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi and Antoine Griezmann nominated for the award.
