Immediate Reactions: Real Madrid 4-0 Sevilla

The BBC strikes back.

Fairly comfortable win for Real Madrid. This 4-0 was definitely easier than initially expected and the BBC managed to score one goal each, with Karim Benzema opening the score as usual. Zidane's men enter this next FIFA break with a good performance and one that could be useful for the tpugh matches ahead.

  1. Bale was Real Madrid's best player. The Welshman could've scored twice had the referee not disallowed a goal that was totally legal. He was comfortable on the right wing and proved that he's one of Real's most important players upfront. Zidane needs to nurse Bale's calves because he is a crucial player for the squad and one that will be fundamental to the team's ambitions of winning the Champions League.
  2. Keylor Navas is (still) great. Navas saved a penalty and two more big chances for Sevilla. Real Madrid played well and deserved the 4-0, but Sevilla would have scored a couple of goals without Navas between the sticks. If Florentino Pérez wants to sign De Gea next summer the decision of letting Navas go could go wrong.
  3. Varane needs to step his game up. The Frenchman made a silly mistake by grabbing Rami inside the box. Varane is playing his worst season since he became the player he is now and Real Madrid need him to regain his good form given Pepe's age. Varane should be more than ready to be the starter week in and week out and he's a liability instead.
