Revisiting History: Copa Del Rey Clasico 2011

With El Clasico only days away, let's take a look at the 2011 Copa Del Rey Clasico final where Cristiano Ronaldo would play spoiler and Sergio Ramos would get a case of butter fingers.

With another El Clasico approaching, I thought we'd look back at some of the Clasico's that have come and gone.

Copa Del Rey Clasico 2011

Before 2011, the last time Real Madrid and Barcelona faced each other in a Copa Del Rey final was on April 5th, 1990, which was just the sixth time they had met in the finals since 1950.

2011 was also Jose Mourinho's first season as the manager. This would be the second time he'd faced Barcelona that season after a 5-0 welcome loss in the Camp Nou. So going into this match, Barca had one up on the boys in white.

The match would be an edgy back-and-forth affair that would remain scoreless at the end of 90. In extra time, Angel Di Maria would fly down the wing - lofting a beautiful cross into the box for Ronaldo who struck a beautiful header into the back of the net for the game-winner.

Of note: Sergio Ramos would drop the trophy from the top of the Real Madrid bus.

Cristiano Ronaldo's game winner.

Here is the match, in full.
