Atlético Madrid's Jose Maria Giménez is on Real Madrid's radar according to Marca, even though Pepe and Sergio Ramos have been solid partners in the center of Madrid's defensive line for almost a decade.
Giménez, who is still 21 years old, has a €65 million release clause on his contract and is playing for Uruguay in the Copa America.
Real Madrid would most likely need to pay that much for Giménez given that Atletico have always refused to negotiate with los blancos in the past, like it happened when Sergio Aguero left the Spanish capital and joined Manchester City.
Raphael Varane and Nacho Fernandez are two solid and young defenders as well, so Madrid would not need to make a move for Gimenez unless their two defenders decide to join another team in order to play relevant minutes as starters.
It will not be easy to sign Giménez away from Atlético, but Real Madrid have to try.
