Contrary to what Italian media are reporting today, Mateo Kovacic is set to stay with Real Madrid this season, according to MARCA. Los Blancos are happy with his development so far and he will be an important part of the squad, per that same report.

Apparently, Milan were on the verge of completing a move for Kovacic, whether that was a loan deal or a permanent move including a buyback clause for Madrid. However, sources within Real confirmed to Managing Madrid that Kovacic could and will be an important player for Zinedine Zidane, who plans to use him as Modric's replacement.

This will be a very long season for Los Blancos and Zidane will have to make plenty of rotations throughout the year if he wants to keep his most important players fresh. Kovacic could be a very important asset when the French manager decides to rest either Kroos or Modric.
