FC Barcelona were on the verge of completing a €4 million move for Marco Asensio back in 2014, but the Catalans decided to sign Brazilian defender Douglas Pereira instead, according to Jugones.

Asensio has become a very important player for Real Madrid and one of their most promising prospects while Douglas has barely featured for Barcelona, so Real Madrid can consider themselves quite lucky.

Early this month, Jugones reported that tennis legend and renowned Real Madrid supporter Rafa Nadal played a big part in Asensio's signing with Los Blancos, as Nadal's uncle and Mallorca football director Miguel Angel Nadal revealed.

Asensio has scored two brilliant goals in his first two games with Real Madrid. He also performed very well while he was with Espanyol last year. He will have to compete with James and Isco for a spot, meaning that he will have a tough time getting consistent minutes all year long.
