Immediate Reactions: Las Palmas 2-2 Real Madrid, 2016 La Liga

The defense gets it all wrong again.

  1. The 4-2-3-1 worked well...some minutes. Zidane decided to start with a 4-2-3-1 formation in Casemiro's absence. Asensio played behind the striker with Modric and Kroos in the midfield. Las Palmas played very well through Roque Mesa but as soon as Asensio pressed Las Palma's playmaker Madrid were much more comfortable. This was the first time for Asensio playing in his natural position and he delivered with a goal.
  2. Real Madrid have a problem with their defense. Varane and Ramos don't have any kind of chemistry whatsoever. Las Palmas broke through Madrid's defensive line with a single touch and Varane was responsible for the two goals conceded. In the first one, he misses his duel with the striker, and in the late goal he was caught out of position, as he should be marking Araujo.
  3. Zidane must do much better. What's the point of making rotations and having the whole squad fresh if you're losing points you should be getting? Madrid are still leading the table, but make no mistake. Los Blancos should've beaten both Villarreal and Las Palmas and they will have to play much better if they want to win week in and week out in this La Liga season.
