3 things we learned from Real Madrid's 2-2 draw against Las Palmas

Real Madrid wasted a one-goal lead twice in this match. They dropped two points against a manageable side and they are now leading La Liga by a single point. Barcelona have had a tougher schedule so far and Los Blancos will have to improve quite a lot if they want to conquer La Liga.

1. Real Madrid are not ready for Borussia Dortmund RIGHT NOW. Los Blancos have not completed an all-around brilliant performance for weeks now. They struggled against Sporting Portugal, their match against Espanyol was just OK and they dropped points to Villarreal and Las Palmas. Borussia Dortmund are a much better team than those four and Madrid will need to regroup if they want to get a positive result away from the Signal-Iduna Park.
2. Zidane better be careful with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star missed around three months of competitive football and yet he did not accept a late substitution. Ronaldo was playing very poorly —in fact, he probably deserved to be taken off the field when the match was still 1-1— and he's 31 years old. However, it's clear that he's not mentally ready to rotate.
3. Is Varane such a safe bet for the long-term future? Varane's latest performances are very worrying. Let's face it, he's not been brilliant for quite some time. It's obvious that every central-defender needs time and rhythm to gain confidence, but Varane simply doesn't deserve that playing time right now. While most analysts and fans thought that the Frenchman would be ready to lead Madrid's defense soon, he is 23 and his current level isn't where it was supposed to be.
