Sevilla have a herculean task cut out for them as they welcome Real Madrid to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán for the Copa del Rey second leg of the round of 16. The Whites come into this match with a comfortable three goal lead and are almost assured of dipping their toes in the quarter finals of the tournament.
This fixture is the second fixture out of the three that Real Madrid play Sevilla in the month of January. Having won the first leg with ease. Madrid will look to win the second fixture and advance to the round of 16.
Real Madrid and Sevilla both come to this match after winning big in La Liga against Granada and Real Sociedad respectively. However, a defeat for Real Madrid is still not out of the question as Sevilla have always done well when playing against the Whites at home. It is worth noting that Real Madrid have lost the last three out of four trips to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
Jorge Sampaoli’s men cannot be underestimated at all and Real Madrid have a formidable task for themselves in keeping Sevilla at bay to win the bout. Sevilla will give their all to turn the tables and Real Madrid will have to be focused to not lose their ground.
Sevilla’s newly acquired player Stevan Jovetić has been included in their squad. It remains to be seen if and how Sampaoli uses the former Manchester City player.
Real Madrid will once again be without key starters, as Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modrić are being rested for this tie because Madrid play Sevilla away again in three days. James, Isco, Pepe and Bale all also miss out due to injuries.
On the bright side, Ramos, Kovačić, and Vazquez have made their return to the squad from injuries.
Also included in the squad is Real Madrid Castilla player; Enzo Zidane, who will be hoping to get a few minutes on the pitch.
Kickoff: Thursday, 12th January 2017 at 9:15 PM CET.
