Real Madrid dismantled Espanyol and obtained their first home win in this 2017-18 La Liga season through a brace scored by Isco. Here are three takeaways from the game:
- Isco can still get it done. The playmaker had completed some mediocre performances after signing his contract extension with Real Madrid but just when he as given freedom he reminded everyone that he’s still a brilliant player capable of leading this team. Isco can be successful almost everywhere on the pitch and yet it’s clear that he’s a better player when he has freedom to operate.
- Asensio’s form has declined but that’s OK. He started the season being the undisputed leader but he’s still too young to be consistent week in and week out. Asensio is still 21 years old and nobody should expect him to reach his true potential just yet.
- Real Madrid still need to improve. The performance as a whole was somewhat disappointing and Zidane will be hoping to recover some players during this FIFA break. Benzema might be able to feature in Real’s next game and Madrid might not need him to score goals, but they do need him to play better.
