Carvajal’s pericardium infection is no joke and the Spanish defender will be forced to miss at least two months trying to recover from his illness. Furthermore, once he’s cleared to do some kind of exercise again, Carvajal will need to complete a small training stage to regain the fitness he loses during this period of time.
Still, Real Madrid have not pushed the panic button and won’t sign another defender this winter. Los Blancos want Nacho to be Carvajal’s backup once Marcelo and Theo recover from their injuries and that way the young Achraf Hakimi won’t feel the pressure of starting in every game.
Carvajal is the only pure right-back on Real Madrid’s roster after Los Blancos decided to sell Danilo this summer. The situation is problematic for Madrid as Carvajal might not be able to contribute until after the winter break, and while Nacho always performs well, it’s clear that he’s not a right-back.
