Injury update: Isco and Kovacic train with the squad

The Croatian midfielder could be available soon.

Isco Alarcon and Luka Modric completed Wednesday’s training session with their teammates as Mateo Kovacic rejoined the squad for half of the session, meaning that his return is close.

This is huge news for Real Madrid because Isco appeared to be questionable for Saturday’s Madrid Derby against Atletico after being forced to leave Spain’s friendly against Costa Rica. Right now it looks like Isco will surely be available for the crucial Derby and he should be the one starting behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

On the other hand, Kovacic has been out for a long period of time with a serious groin injury. He might need at least one more week before being able to play as muscle injuries are always tricky and Madrid will not rush his return to the pitch. Once he comes back, Zidane will most likely place him behind Kroos and Modric in the depth chart for the midfield.
