Real Madrid CEO Jose Angel Sanchez revealed that the club received many offers for Mateo Kovacic last summer, one of them coming from Tottenham Hotspurs.

“Last summer we received plenty of inquiries and offers about him. Inter Milan sent one and Tottenham did too,” said Jose Angel Sanchez.

“Kovacic is not for sale, we will never sell him. If somebody sends an offer for him this winter we will reject it,” added Sanchez. “Mateo is a smart young man who knows he would be starting in every club who inquired about him but he also knows that he’s an important player for us and we trust him a lot for the future,” explained Real’s CEO.

Kovacic made his return to the pitch last night after spending the last two months recovering from a groin injury. The Croatian midfielder has shown a lot of potential when given the chance and he will surely be a huge asset for Zidane throughout the rest of the season.
