Real Madrid are set to agree on a €20 million deal for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to MARCA. The young goalkeeper would join Madrid this winter if the report is accurate as Madrid decided to upgrade the position before the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
Kepa’s current deal with Athletic Bilbao expires next summer but Madrid will not wait to sign the goalkeeper as a free agent and will spend those €20 million instead after Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla’s recent struggles.
It seems that Madrid want to salvage the season and it makes sense for them to secure Kepa’s signing as soon as possible, even if that means spending €20 million when he could’ve been signed as a free agent.
Still, take this report with a grain of salt as MARCA have not been accurate lately.
Real Madrid visit Athletic Bilbao’s San Mames this weekend but Kepa will not play as he is sidelined with an ankle injury.
