Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is close on joining Real Madrid next summer as his negotiations with Bilbao over a contract extension have stalled, according to MARCA. Los Blancos would be willing to pay around €20 million for the goalkeeper so that the deal is perceived as non-hostile.

Kepa could be leaving as a free agent. In fact, he will be able to sign a contract with any given club on January 1st, meaning that Bilbao still have more than a month to get a deal done so that Kepa’s potential departure gives them more money. His current release clause is set in €20 million and while the club want to increase it to €75 million, the goalkeeper doesn’t believe that’s actually fair.

All things considered, it looks like Real Madrid are in a good place if they really are interested in Kepa. He’s still 23 years old and might not be ready to start as soon as next season, but he looks promising and would be a good signing for that price.
