The Spanish Football Federation named Fernandez Borbalan as the man in charge of the upcoming Madrid Derby between Atletico de Madrid and Real Madrid, which will be played on November 18th.
This will be the second time he’s called a Real Madrid game this season after the home draw against Valencia. He also has experience in Madrid Derbies as he was in charge of Madrid’s last visit to the Vicente Calderon, which ended in a convincing 0-3 win for Los Blancos last season.
Borbalan is definitely not one of the best referees in Spain and he likes to control the game way too much —booking players—. Either way, it could be worse and Real Madrid shouldn’t be too concerned about this referee, although players like Casemiro or Sergio Ramos might need to be calm during the first few minutes in order to avoid an early yellow card which could hurt Madrid’s chances.
