Real Madrid will try to sign Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois next summer even if they complete the transfer of Kepa Arrizabalaga to the Spanish capital, according to a report from Cadena COPE.
Courtois is yet to sign a contract extension with Chelsea and his contract expires in 2019. Apparently, he would be considering a move back to Spain and that’s precisely where Los Blancos fit into the equation.
All things considered, it seems that Real Madrid are willing to move on from the Keylor Navas-Kiko Casilla era fairly soon, and rightfully so. Navas is not the same goalkeeper who impressed on his first season as a starter and Casilla cannot be trusted as the starter between the sticks, so it makes sense for Los Blancos to upgrade that spot even with two quality goalkeepers who could compete for the starting job as soon as next summer.
If Courtois doesn’t want to sign a new contract with Chelsea, the London-based club could be keen on selling the goalkeeper next summer rather than seeing him leave as a free agent in 2019.
