The Spanish Football Federation have appointed referee Sanchez Martinez as the man in charge of the upcoming El Clasico between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, which will be played on December 23rd at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Is will not be the first El Clasico where he is the referee, as he was also the one calling the action in the return leg of the 2017 Spanish Super Cup played at the Bernabeu as well.
This will be the second time he is in charge of a Real Madrid game this La Liga season as he also called the match between Real Madrid and Las Palmas where Madrid won 3-0. He was also the official in Barcelona’s 0-3 win against Girona.
The upcoming El Clasico could very well decide the race for La Liga title as Madrid will need to beat Barcelona to cut their lead to five points. A draw or a loss for Los Blancos could finish their title hopes.
