Real Madrid host Barcelona today —13:00 CET— and they need the three points in order to keep the race for the title alive, as Barça would be 14 points ahead if they beat Los Blancos. Here are three keys to a Real Madrid win in El Clasico.

  1. Accuracy. Madrid might be expected to control the tempo of the game through Kroos, Modric and Isco, but they still have to convert their chances if they want the three points. Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema will have to bounce back from their disappointing performances in La Liga this season as Messi won’t need many chances to write his name in the score sheet.
  2. Set pieces. Los Blancos have not been effective converting set pieces this year and yet they have an advantage over Barcelona in these plays, so it would be great for Zidane’s men to dominate in the air through the likes of Sergio Ramos and Varane.
  3. Goalkeeping. Ter Stegen has been playing out of his mind this season. Keylor Navas...not so much. Barcelona will create their chances and it will be crucial for Real Madrid to count on a good performance from their starting goalkeeper.
