Best of Managing Madrid 2017

2017 has been the greatest year in Real Madrid history for a long long while and it’s been even better for Managing Madrid. We’ve made huge strides in raising our overall profile and it’s all thanks to you, the readers. Without you all, we wouldn’t be able to produce articles and videos and cover the team that we fiercely love. So, without further adieu, here are some of the best pieces that you helped bring into existence via your support.

Methodology: I sent out a message on our slack channel asking everybody to DM me a couple pieces they were proud of in 2017. Thus, there are obviously many more articles that could be linked here, as the selection is simply biased to those who responded to me before this post was written.

• Matt Wiltse wrote about how Zidane’s experience in Italy helped shape his managerial philosophy.
• C-Trick penned an interesting piece examining the enduring greatness of Ronaldo and the foolishness of trying to predict his decline.
• Speaking of Ronaldo, Kiyan eulogized about the brilliance of the original, among other things.
• Ondra wrote some words about Redondo, another legend.
• Moving to more current players, Timm waxed lyrical about Kroos and charted the rising star of Isco. For his part, Kiyan documented the story of Gareth Bale; how a young Welshman developed his prodigious talent to move from the suburb of Whitchurch to the bustling city of Madrid.
• Matt wrote how players like Bale top the Madrid hierarchy and why such a structure is beneficial to the club.
• The aforementioned hierarchy is probably something that caused Morata to leave the club, but that didn’t stop Naguib from creating this excellent tribute to Alvaro.
• On a more current note, C-Trick used empirical data to assess the fiery Bale vs. Isco debate.
• Kiyan, a clear lover of longform journalism, noted how Madrid don’t need to possess everything new and shiny and how they’ve mastered the passing lanes.
• Tommy spoke about the need to appreciate the present, while also writing about the future by scouting Vinícius.
