Real Madrid want to sign a goalkeeper next summer, that's fairly clear. Keylor Navas has not been the keeper he once was after having surgery to repair his heel and his performances this season have cost Madrid some points in La Liga. Furthermore, Kiko Casilla is a quality reserve but he's not good enough to be the main starter, so Florentino Perez and the scouting staff will be looking to add a new goalie, with Thibaut Courtois and David De Gea among the main candidates.
However, there's a young Italian goalkeeper playing for Milan who seems to be on his way to dominate the position for years to come. Gianluigi Donnarumma and no other should be Madrid's main target this summer.
- He's the youngest of the candidates. Donnarumma has been starting for AC Milan for quite some time and he's still 18 years old. Some could argue that he needs more experience to start for Real Madrid on a permanent basis, but the pressure he is facing in Milan is no joke and he is delivering. It'd be a gamble worth taking because of his unlimited potential.
- It would not be so hard to sign him. OK, he's a Milan fan and the Italian club will be wanting to get big money to let Donnarumma walk away. How much would Chelsea or United want for Courtois or De Gea? It's safe to say that Madrid could sign Donnaruma for a cheaper fee and that way Milan could keep him away from Juventus as well, given that Buffon will need a replacement soon...
- He's already a star. This isn't a joke. Real Madrid probably want a big name between the sticks. Courtois and De Gea check that box and so does Donnarumma, even at 18 years old. His performances and his age have not gone unnoticed in Spain, meaning that most fans would be happy with his signing.
