Post-Match Player Reactions (El Clásico 2016/17): Real Madrid 2 - 3 Barcelona

Sergio Ramos has been our guardian angel countless times throughout the seasons, always delivering when it matters most. Reliable at the back and ruthless in front of goal, Sergio Ramos has come to embody Real Madrid like few other people have. Yet despite his fantastic season, and just like the form for both teams when it comes to Clásicos, it was all irrelevant once both sides took to the pitch. The match was as exciting and enthralling as it was stomach-churning for us Madridistas. Sergio Ramos was once more in the headlines for Madrid, however this time it wasn’t for his heroics. The Spaniard was sent off in the second half for a two-footed tackle against Messi in arguably one of the most controversial calls of the match.

Here is what Sergio Ramos had to say after the Clásico defeat.

Sergio: Para mí ha sido excesiva la tarjeta roja. Ha sido obviamente muy condicionada para jugar luego después los últimos minutos con un jugador menos. Admito que he llegado tarde después de verla 40 veces, pero es una entrada en que no voy en ningún momento a hacerle daño a ningún compañero, no hay ningún tipo de peligro, quizás un poco llamativa, pero Messi lo hace bien, salta, ni lo tocó y bueno, decidió dejar al Madrid con uno menos y así ha sido. Acondicionado un poco el partido

Periodista: Sergio lo de Piqué?

Sergio: Bueno ahora dirán lo que quieran los medios ahí en su casa. Dirigido ningún momento al árbitro, es una decisión tomada y poco puedes hacer. Y bueno, yo sé que él [Pique], personalmente, siempre le gusta opinar sobre los árbitros, sobre las jugadas más polémicas, y bueno se le ha dicho al final con tanta presión, con tantas quejas, y con tanto morbo en cada tweet que hace parece ser que pues bueno, se lleva el gato al agua.

Periodista: Pero es que acaba de decir hace 10 minutos aquí “es que el Madrid está acostumbrado arbitrajes permisivos en el Bernabéu y hoy no ha sido así, y ha perdido.”

Sergio: Permisivo como el suyo tal vez del PSG, pero tampoco voy a entrar al trapo ahora. Eso ya ha pasado. Estamos dolidos también, porque nos hubiera gustado brindarle a la afición una victoria, un golpe fuerte a la vez, sobre todo la liga, que se ponía muy bien. Incluso con el empate. No ha sido así pero aquí estamos todos en el barco y el que se baje que no quiera venir al final a celebrar con nosotros. Dependemos de nosotros, tenemos que ganar todo para ser campeón y pensar en el siguiente.

Periodista: Es un partidazo, Leo Messi que sacó la camiseta y mostrándosela a la grada del Bernabéu. ¿No sé qué te parece ese gesto?

Sergio: Bueno cada uno celebra los goles de la manera que quiere No tengo nada más que decir.

Periodista: Sergio quería preguntarte por lo que viene por delante para Real Madrid. Tú no vas a poder jugar seguro en Coruña, Varane está tocado, Pepe lesionado, Nacho con 4 amarillas, crees que puede incidir este marcador adverso en el futuro en La Liga y Champions?

Sergio: Esperemos que no, en la Champions obviamente no habría ningún tipo de problemas. Pasamos limpios los que teníamos tarjeta, en ese aspecto quizás, en la liga llega el momento, el más importante la temporada, que nos gustaría tener a todo el plantel al completo. No ha sido así porque hemos sufrido muchas lesiones. Los jugadores que salen después con menos minutos, también dan la cara y que cada uno coja nivel de importancia que merece este Club. Y bueno entre todos remar en la misma dirección y tratar de conseguir los objetivos.

Periodista: ¿Sergio es posible que tú y Gerard Piqué os llevéis bien?

Ramos: Sí, sí, yo no me llevó nada mal con Piqué. El defiende lo suyo, yo defiendo lo mío y cuando nos toque defender lo mismo juntos lo haremos, eso no va a cambiar nada. Pero después de un clásico no pidas que le pegue un abrazo.

Periodista: Sergio has visto la jugada 40 veces y que te parece amarilla. Ha dicho Piqué también que cuando lo veas en frío te arrepentirás del gesto ante él. ¿Lo tienes claro, te arrepientes?

Sergio: No, no, te voy a decir, y más frío después de meterme 5 minutos en hielo imposible. Por lo tanto, para nada. Solo de haber dejado a mí equipo con uno menos, pero nada.

Periodista: Futbolísticamente no estabas en el campo, pero la última jugada es de equipo juvenil. Evidentemente al Madrid le vale el 2-2 y no puede permitir un contragolpe así.

Sergio: Lo dije el día del Atlético Madrid también, que hay que saber manejar a veces el marcador, el resultado, la hora de ir por un balón y el juego. Como dijo Luis Aragonés que Son pequeños detalles que pueden llegar a marcar la diferencia. Y hoy pues quizás, cuando ya hemos hecho lo más difícil que era empatar el partido con uno menos, debimos saber manejarlo un poquito mejor.

Periodista: Sergio afecta esto un poquito moralmente a lo que queda porque partidos entre la semana y los del Champions?

Sergio: Aquí no hay tiempo ni para echar una lágrima, ni para sacar pecho por eliminar al Bayern. Por tanto, esto sigue y afortunado de estar en esta posición para poder volver a dar la cara.

Periodista: Afecta físicamente porque no es lo mismo afrontar la semana de Champions antes y después con más tres, o incluso con más 6, que ahora que estés exigido a sacar 16 puntos. Esto puede afectar en la tensión ¿No es igual afrontar un partido con más tranquilidad que con tanta tensión todos los partidos?

Sergio: No, no va a cambiar nada. Obviamente cómo te dicho no hay favorito. Que cada uno diga lo que quiera, favoritos no hay para nosotros. Dependemos de nosotros y bueno tenemos 5-6 finales que nos quedan y hay que ganarlo todo.

Sergio: Well everyone celebrates their goals in the manner that they want. I have nothing else to say.

¿Sergio es posible que tú y Gerard Piqué os llevéis bien?

Reporter: Sergio I wanted to ask you about what lies ahead for Real Madrid. You won’t be able to play in la Coruña, Varane isn’t ready, Pepe is injured, and Nacho has 4 yellows. Do you think this adverse result could be indicative of La Liga and Champions?

Reporter: Sergio, you’ve seen the play 40 times, and that you think it’s a yellow. Pique has also said that when you see it coldly (with a cooler head) you’ll regret your gesture towards him. Are you clear, do you regret it?
