Post-Match Player Reactions (2016/17 UEFA Champions League Semifinals, 2nd Leg): Atlético Madrid 2 - 1 Real Madrid

Real Madrid are through to the Champions League final and will now have to face off against Juventus. This was achieved through a very difficult match against our crosstown rivals, Atlético de Madrid. Two early goals had everyone in jitters, but Benzema pulled out a moment of magic from which Isco capitalized upon. Here are the reactions of the players after the match.

¡Muy contento! Yo creo que, que lo que estamos consiguiendo no es nada fácil. Otra vez hemos eliminado a un gran rival, que no se ha puesto la cosa muy muy complicada, pero bueno así sabe mucho mejor llegar a la final. Y muy contento de haberlo conseguido.

English:

Very happy! I believe that what we’re achieving is not easy. Once again we’ve eliminated a great rival, that has made things very complicated for us, but it tastes sweeter to reach the final this way. Very happy to have achieved it.

Lo importante es llegar hasta la final. Sabemos que no es fácil estar aquí, entonces yo creo que por eso hemos celebrado y ¡estamos felices! Porque sabemos que no es fácil llegar hasta aquí. Todavía queda un partido, un partido muy difícil. Sabemos que la Juve juega bien el fútbol y entonces yo creo que todavía hay que tener tranquilidad y mucha humildad, porque todavía queda mucho y un partido muy guapo (okay?) de jugar y muy importante para nosotros.

Ahora muy contento. Jugar en la final de la Champions es algo muy difícil, pero el equipo lo merece porque jugamos bien. Fuimos mejor en las dos eliminatorias, así que el equipo está enhorabuena.

¿Es fácil?

No, nada es fácil. Para ganar la Champions hay que luchar hasta el final. Pero el equipo está bien, es una final 50/50 todo puede pasar, pero yo veo el equipo bien. Y vamos a disfrutar hasta el final, y ganar allí.

¿Qué tal el plantel?

Pues está muy bien, los que juegan más, los que juegan menos, cuando tienen la oportunidad, siempre dan su mejor. Por eso tenemos una gran plantilla. Tenemos varias opciones y por eso demostramos todas las semanas cuando juegan unos, llegan otros y todos los que juegan tienden a dar su mejor. El equipo está demostrando que es muy completo tanto los que juegan más veces como los que no juegan tanto.

¿Y ahora qué?

Ahora por la liga. Por la liga. Porque queremos mucho ganar la liga y después tenemos tiempo para preparar la final de la Champions. Pero yo estoy con mucha ilusión y ojalá que el Madrid puede ganar.

¿Algo para los aficionados?

How do you feel?

Right now, very happy. Playing in the finals of the Champions League is something that’s very difficult. But the team deserves it because we played well. We were better in both ties, so the team is now celebrating.

Is it easy?

No, nothing is easy. To win the Champions you have to fight until the end. But the team is well, it’s a 50/50 final and anything can happen. We will enjoy it until the end, and win then too!

What about the squad?

It is very well. Those that play more, those that play less, when they have the chance, they always give their best. That’s why we have a great squad. We have various options and because of that we demonstrate it every week when some play, others come in and all that play have a tendency to give it their all. The team is demonstrating that it is very complete, those that play more, just like those that play a bit less.

Now what?

Now to focus on La Liga. Go for La Liga. Because we want to win La Liga so badly and afterwards we have time to prepare for the final of the Champions. But I’m very hopeful that Madrid can win!

Fue una jugada muy rápida, cuando saqué la primera bola, traté de levantarme lo más rápido posible y cuando vi que la otra bola venía, cabezazo de Gameiro, intenté sacar la mano, la cabeza, el cuerpo, ¡todo lo que fuera posible para sacar el balón! Y bueno, siempre que se hace bien el trabajo hay que estar contento.

Todos sabíamos que era un partido difícil. Ellos nos hicieron dos goles muy rápidos, algo que no queríamos pero creo que ahí salió la personalidad de cada uno. Sabíamos que había que tener la calma, que teníamos que tener confianza en nosotros mismos, en salir y hacer nuestro juego y llegar a la notación. Que fue una jugada muy buena que nos dio ese gol. Que nos dio tranquilidad.

¿Podrán repetir la Champions?

Tenemos ahí presente. Sabemos que nunca se ha logrado, hay que ir con humildad y respetar el rival que tenemos. Pero con toda la ilusión del mundo, con todas estas ganas que hemos demostrado hasta ahora, para poder ganar este título y ¡ojalá poder hacer historia!

What a save!

It was a very fast play, when I saved the first ball, I tried to get up as fast as I possibly could, and when I saw that the other ball was coming, the Gameiro header, I tried to put my hand out, the head, the body, anything I possibly could to make sure the ball doesn’t go in! and well, anytime you do a good job you gotta be happy.

We all knew it was going to be a difficult match. They scored two quick goals, something we didn’t want but that’s when each of our personalities shone through. We knew that we had to keep calm, we knew that we had to believe in ourselves, and go out there and play our game and score. It was a very good play that gave us the goal that gave us tranquility.

Can you repeat as Champions League winners?

It’s something that is staring us in the face. We know it’s never been achieved, and we have to go with humility and respect for the rival that we have. But also with all of the illusion (hope/faith) in the world, with all this desire that we’ve shown up until now, to be able to win this title and make history!

Después de encajar en una final de nuevo de Champions en estos últimos 4 años, que sean tres consecutivos, bueno no consecutivos, pero tres muy seguidas, es un orgullo. Hoy el equipo ha demostrado que es muy complicado hacerlo y bueno esto porque queríamos conseguir ese objetivo se ha conseguido. Y bueno, a seguir ahora. Centrarnos en la liga y cuando llegue el momento de preparar esa final ante la Juve, intentar conseguirla, como estos últimos años.

¿Ha sido una buena temporada?

La nota al fin al cabo lo marca los títulos. La temporada es así, el fútbol, para lo bueno y para lo malo, y pues tiene esa cosa, se ve reflejado por los títulos. Estamos en el camino de dos, la línea buena del trabajo y vamos a intentar llegar a la final de la mejor manera posible. Y centrarnos ahora en la liga, que dependiendo de nosotros todo es mucho más fácil.

¿Algo sobre Zizou?

Fue jugador, sabe entender, sabe manejar un vestuario. Yo creo que eso le facilita, de ser jugador, a la hora de manejar todo. Eso que nos complica, y en un vestuario como Real Madrid, pues manejarlo, chapeau, quitarle el sombrero. Todos motivados, gran plantel tanto los que juegan más, como los que juegan menos. Y es la clave del éxito: mantener enchufado a todo el grupo. Y estamos encantado con Zizou.

What about Zizou?

He was a player, he knows how to understand, knows how to manage a dressing room. I think that this facilitates things for him, having been a player, when it’s time to manage it all. That which bothers us, and in a dressing room like Real Madrid, well managing it, chapeau, I take my hat off to him. Everyone is motivated, great squad those that play more, just like those that play less. And that is the key to success: maintain the whole squad plugged in. We are pleased with Zizou!
