Morata is leaving Real Madrid and will join Chelsea very soon, according to every media outlet in Spain. The deal seems to be all but done and Chelsea will pay around €80 million for the attacker, meeting Real Madrid’s price tag.
This will leave Real Madrid without a backup striker unless Los Blancos somehow decide to sign another player. If they don’t expect Borja Mayoral to be Benzema’s backup, a move that would be risky given Mayoral’s lack of experience.
Morata spent just one season with Real Madrid after he made his return to the Spanish capital following two seasons on a loan deal with Juventus. The attacker expected a bigger role but never managed to be a starter in Zidane’s mind. He scored crucial goals throughout the season and it will be important for Madrid to find a way to replace Morata’s scoring ability if they want to compete for the treble next year.
