Real Madrid updated Luka Modric’s profile on the team’s website and revealed that the Croatian midfielder will be the one player wearing the number 10 after the departure of James Rodriguez to Bayern Munich.
Most fans and even journalists expected Madrid to save that big number for a signing like Kylian Mbappe or another up and coming player like Asensio or Isco, but Modric’s stripes and status ended up securing the number for him, no matter whether he actually asked for it or not.
Modric is clearly one of Madrid’s leaders and it makes sense to give him the number 10 considering he was wearing 19 since he joined the club in 2012. The Croatian player has proved his worth over and over again and it’s time for him to show once more that he is the right man for that number.
That leaves number 19 as Madrid’s only available number right now, although Danilo’s 23 could be free in a matter of days.
