Real Madrid beat Barcelona 1-3 at the Camp Nou even after two huge mistakes by referee De Burgos Bengoetxea. Los Blancos proved that they are ready to compete for more titles while sending Barcelona fans a message.

  1. Mateo Kovacic is ready for a bigger role. The Croatian midfielder completed a brilliant performance and arguably earned the Man of the Match Award. It looks like Kovacic will be Modric’s backup this season and yet he proved that he is more than ready to compete for a spot in the starting lineup. Superb effort by Kovacic.
  2. Varane deserved the starting spot. The French defender was also brilliant and if he can stay healthy for most of the season Madrid fans can stay calm after Pepe’s departure. Varane is still 24 years old and this will be his first season as an undisputed starter for Madrid.
  3. Asensio’s time is now. Some people say Asensio’s future looks bright because he is still 21 years old. However, his present is as bright as his future and he deserves to be a starter for this club. At least, he should clearly be ahead of Gareth Bale in the rotation.
