Asensio is the man of the moment for Real Madrid. The young sensation scored two brilliant goals in the Spanish Super Cup Final against Barcelona and it’s looking like he could be a starter for this team very soon. Asensio spoke to ABC about his development as a player and revealed that he wanted to be like Zidane when he was growing up.

“I’m not saying this because he’s coaching me right now, but I always wanted to be like Zidane. What a football player. I also enjoyed watching Michael Laudrup but Zidane was a true genius,” said Asensio.

The attacker also stated that he would not leave Real Madrid for a better contract when asked about it.

“What would I do if PSG send me an offer? Thanks but no thanks...” he said.

Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Real Madrid’s next five games and that will give Asensio a good chance to make an impact.

“Cris is great, one of the strongest men I’ve ever met. His suspension is a punishment for him but also for the rest of us because we’ll lose the best player for a few weeks. It’s clear to me that he did not look down on the referee and that kind of gesture shouldn’t have been punished. Something’s gotta chance, he has our full support. But be careful with him because he’s better when he’s hurt,” explained Asensio.
