Post-Match Player Reactions: Deportivo La Coruña 0 – 3 Real Madrid CF

In what originally seemed like an even match with Deportivo dangerously coming close to scoring early on, Real Madrid asserted their dominance and comfortably won the first match of the season. Bale, Casemiro and Kroos got on to the scoresheet, but Sergio Ramos was the man who stole the show today, somehow managing to get sent off on the very last minute of the match. He does have a pechant for late match events, and below are what Marcelo and Sergio Ramos had to say about this match.

Periodista: Empiezas la liga como acabaste, siendo líderes, si no me equivoco, con este resultado.

Marcelo: Lo de líderes sabemos que no es importante en este momento. Es importante haber ganado pero quedan muchos partidos. Nada más hemos empezado la liga. Hemos empezado bien, eso de líderes nos da igual. Tenemos que jugar y ganar todos los partidos que quedan. Son muchos pero vamos a intentarlo.

Periodista: Nunca tenéis partidos plácidos pero si ha dado la sensación que ha sido un partido relativamente tranquilo para el Real Madrid. ¿Os notáis vosotros bastante superiores, os habéis notado superiores al rival hoy?

Marcelo: No, no. Yo no creo que la cuestión es de ser superiores, hemos hecho un buen trabajo, hemos iniciado el partido presionando arriba y eso se ha notado, pero no hay eso de ser superiores.

Periodista: ¿Qué te dice el hecho que el segundo tanto han combinado más de 40 pases que han sido minutos con el balón jugando todos, pasando por todos los componentes del equipo?

Marcelo: Bueno el Míster nos pide tener el balón. Sabemos que defensivamente tenemos que estar preocupados, claro, pero lo más importante es cuando tenemos el balón. Entrenamos cada semana para intentar hacer eso. Hemos hecho un gran partido sin balón y también con él.

Periodista: Qué se le dice a Sergio Ramos, qué es el capitán, el próximo partido me imagino que lo vas a tener que llevar tu, ¿qué se le dice? Es decir porque tiene una cartulina amarilla qué ya se había jugado, luego con el partido ya resuelto de esa manera, ¿qué se le puede decir?

Marcelo: Pues eso es el fútbol. Eso pasa, pero no soy yo el que tengo que decirle las cosas al Capitán del Madrid. El sabe las cosas que él hace. Hoy ha sido un partido difícil, son cosas que pasan en el fútbol, pero no soy yo el que tengo que decirle lo que ha hecho bien o mal.

Reporter: You begin the league just like you ended it, being the leaders, if I'm not mistaken, with this result.

Marcelo: About being leaders, we know that is not important at this moment. What's important is to have won, but there are many matches left. We've barely begun the league. We've begun well, but being leaders doesn't matter to us. We have to play and win all the games that are left. There's many, but we are going to try it.

Reporter: You never have easy matches, but there has been a sensation that it has been a relatively calm match for Real Madrid. Have you noticed yourself being fairly superior or have you felt that you were superior against the rival today?

Marcelo: No, no. I don’t believe that, being superior. We've done a good job, we initiated the match applying pressure on top and that has been seen, but being superior does not exist.

Reporter: What does the fact that you've combined 40 different passes for the second goal and that you've had the ball for minutes where everyone played, everybody touched the ball. What does that tell you?

Marcelo: Well the Mister always asks for us to keep the ball. We know that we have to always be worried defensively as well, of course, but the most important part is when we have the ball. We work every week to try and do this. We've done a great match today, without the ball as well as with it.

Reporter: What do you have to say to Sergio Ramos, who is the captain, the next match I suppose that it’ll be you, what do you have to tell him because he already had a yellow card and afterwards with the match already tied up, what do you have to tell him?

Marcelo: Well that’s football, it happens. But it is not me who has to tell the Captain of Real Madrid anything. He knows the things that he does. Today has been a difficult match, its things that happen in football, but it is not I that has to tell him what he has done well or not.

Periodista: ¿Sergio como estas de la expulsión? ¿Estas enfadado, Estás j*****, y sobre todo te veo con un golpe en el ojo?

Sergio Ramos: Bueno sí, es cierto que han habido ciertas jugadas polémicas. Lo bueno ante todo empezar bien la liga ganando con 3 puntos. Pero es obvio, no, que cuando no acabas en el campo, una tarjeta también rigurosa, la segunda amarilla después de verla tranquilamente, No hay ninguna intención de agredir al compañero pero él no ha interpretado así. Es respetable y aprender de cada acto. En la primera, un cabezazo en el pómulo, lo aparto y obviamente, pues, bueno también se toman decisiones.

Periodista: ¿Que paso en la primera tarjeta amarilla?

Sergio Ramos: Después de una jugada de la primera parte donde Carvajal se lleva casi un minuto, incluso más, en el suelo, ellos no tiran el balón y advertimos que como ellos no lo hacen nosotros no lo íbamos a hacer. A raíz de ahí, Modric tira el balón y ha habido unos cuantos y me han pegado un cabezazo en el pómulo. Yo lo he apartado, sin ninguna intención obviamente de agredir, pero si de separarnos. Y la segunda, pues en el minuto 91 tampoco se me pasa por la cabeza en ningún momento de hacerle daño a un compañero y salto prácticamente cuartos por encima de él y me apoyó en el hombro. ¿Qué más vamos hacer? Mis comentarios, no creo que tomen decisiones premeditadas pero sí que es cierto que a veces hay que prestar un poco más de atención.

Periodista: Te dieron tarjeta amarilla “Por disputar el balón a un adversario con el brazo en alto de forma temeraria”

Sergio Ramos: Bueno yo no. Pero cada uno tiene una interpretación. Yo la acabo de ver 10 veces repetida y no lo veo, pero es respetable cada opinión.

Periodista: Sergio 400 partidos con el Madrid y 18 expulsiones y con la selección en 143 ninguna. ¿Te sorprende ese dato?

Sergio Ramos: Bueno es cierto que quizás son más permisivos los árbitros en la Champions como en partidos internacionales, Eurocopas y mundiales, y quizás pues deberíamos ser más hincapié. En el fútbol inglés que dejan jugar más tiempo, obviamente también toman decisiones posterior de cuando hay una acción donde el jugador intenta engañar, tirarse también los sancionan y yo creo eso pues haría una liga mejor nuestra. Pero eso no depende de nosotros.

Periodista: Sergio crees que hay algo que no puedas decir, como que hay algo que pasa que no puedes decir?

Sergio Ramos: No, no. Yo creo que podemos hablar libremente y quizás, bueno, tiene una época de tantos éxitos donde el Madrid empieza a ganar y acostumbra a ganar títulos quizás la gente le coge un poco de empatía Y eso pues no le gusta a todo el mundo. El que sea del Madrid disfrutará pero otros muchos pues no dormirán bien todos los días.

Reporter: Sergio how are you feeling about the red card? Are you angry, are you f*****,and above all, I see that you have taken a hit to the eye.
