Atlético de Madrid are going after Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente, who is Casemiro’s backup at the moment even though he was expected to compete for the starting spot right away.

Atleti know that the player might be somewhat disappointed with his current situation and are offering him a role as a starter. Meanwhile, coach Zinedine Zidane has told the player that he will have relevant minutes down the road as most reserves last season. It won’t be easy for Llorente to earn Casemiro’s job as a starter and yet Real can’t afford to lose a player of his potential to a big rival such as Atlético.

It would make sense to send the player on a loan deal to good teams like Sevilla or Valencia, who have been showing their interest in Llorente this summer, but the player would probably sense that the team don’t need him, meaning that he could try to leave on a permanent deal instead.
