Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric will not be available for Sunday’s El Clásico against FC Barcelona as he will be serving a one-game suspension for being sent off during the last Spanish Supercup Real Madrid played against Atlético de Madrid in the summer of 2014.
That time, Modric saw his second yellow card in the 89th minute of the return leg. Real Madrid lost that title and also Modric’s presence for the upcoming clash against Barcelona in the Camp Nou.
All things considered, players like Mateo Kovacic, Isco, Ceballos or even Marco Asensio could be replacing Modric in the lineup. If Cristiano Ronaldo is fit enough to start, expect Isco to fill Modric’s shoes in the midfield. If the Portuguese star isn’t ready, Mateo Kovacic will be the most likely replacement instead.
Kovacic did not play a single minute on Real’s 2-1 win against Manchester United in the UEFA Supercup and should have fresh legs after completing a brilliant pre-season.
