Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco announced their agreement for the young attacker Kylian Mbappe on Thursday, right before France’s match. The player spoke after the game and explained why he decided to join PSG and not Real Madrid.
“I chose PSG because I will play more, it was the main criteria,” he said. “It’s a dream come true to wear this shirt and feel the unique atmosphere at the Parc des Princes. The club’s project is one of the most ambitious in Europe and I want to keep progressing with my new teammates and reach the goals the club set,” he added.
Reports from Spain suggest that Mbappe also wanted a better contract than what Real Madrid were willing to offer, but it’s clear that the player will not confirm that publicly.
Apparently, Mbappe will earn around €18 million/year in PSG while that contract would’ve made him the second best paid player in Real Madrid, something Los Blancos were not going to accept as players like Sergio Ramos, Marcelo or Toni Kroos could be disappointed.
