Real Madrid host APOEL in what will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to the team’s starting lineup after missing the opening three games of La Liga with a five-game ban. Ronaldo played the whole 90 minutes in the friendly against Fiorentina but this is still a much more relevant game and Ronaldo will surely try to send a message.

Other than that, Los Blancos will begin their defense of the Champions League title they conquered in Cardiff. Madrid were the first team to win two consecutive Champions League titles last June and a ‘three-peat’ would be a tremendous achievement.

They will have to earn the ticket to the competition’s knockout stages against Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham as well, so Madrid must take advantage of every match they play against APOEL and score as many goals as possible just in case they need the points and the goals later. Expect Los Blancos to come out with intensity.
