Dani Carvajal has been one of the most disappointing players during this early part of the season for Real Madrid, right after the club decided to sell Danilo to Manchester City because the Spanish defender is clearly good enough to handle the starting spot on the right side of the defensive line.
However, Carvajal knows he will bounce back and says he doesn’t need another player fighting for the starting job to keep him motivated.
"Achraf is a lad who picks things up very quickly and there's clearly a reason why the gaffer has decided to bring him here. He'll be a great player, but competition doesn't make me a better player. I don't need competition from anybody, I myself am my best competition,” he said.
Carvajal also explained that he feels good physically and doesn’t need to rest yet.
"I'm playing a lot but I'm in perfect shape, am raring to go and am fitter than ever. You can pick up an injury at any given time and last year, when we rotated the team a lot, I got injured in the Champions League semi-final. Zidane is very cautious and when you're in the slightest bit of pain he leaves you out. I'm ready to give 200%,” he added.
