Real Madrid have announced Raphael Varane’s contract extension with the club. His new deal will keep him with Real until the summer of 2022.

Varane is still 24 years old and has become an undisputed starter for Real Madrid in the center of the defensive line ever since Pepe left the club last summer. The French defender will be 29 years old when his new deal expires, meaning that this might not be his last contract with the club.

The defender will speak to the press this Thursday, as usual when the players sign their new contracts. Real Madrid have not announced Zidane’s new deal although the French coach confirmed that it is a “done deal” during a press conference. Still, the club will almost surely confirm Zidane’s contract extension in the upcoming weeks.

Varane signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2011 for €10 million. He has developed into one of the world’s best defenders ever since he signed his first contract with the team.
