Three reasons why Isco’s contract extension is Real Madrid’s biggest “signing” of the summer

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez confirmed that Isco Alarcon’s contract extension with the club “is a done deal” and that the club will make it official “soon”, meaning that the Spanish midfielder will stay with the club until the summer of 2022.

Here are three reasons why Isco’s extension is great news for Real Madrid.

1. Players like Isco don’t grow on trees. How much would you have to spend to sign a player of his quality in today’s transfer market? Real Madrid just managed to keep Isco while the player is entering his prime and they will only pay his salary.
2. Modric isn’t getting any younger. Isco is 25 years old and Modric turns 32 on September 9th. As soon as Modric enters his decline, Isco will have a role as an undisputed starter for Real Madrid and he might even have secured that role already.
3. He can virtually play anywhere. Isco has proved he can play in the center of the park but also behind the two strikers. Carlo Ancelotti used him as a false nine and he also played well, while his performances on the left flank have also been great. Having a player like Isco on the squad gives Zidane plenty of options to choose from.
