Real Madrid considered making a move for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez or Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this winter but ended up deciding to stay put, meaning that they won’t upgrade the squad until next summer, according to reports from Spain.
Alexis Sanchez would’ve been a good addition to the current roster given that his deal with Arsenal expires in July. This forces the London-based club to sell the attacker at a reasonable price if they don’t want him to leave as a free agent. However, Alexis demands a big contract of at least €10 million/year and Real Madrid are not willing to offer that kind of salary. It seems that he will join either Manchester City or Manchester United.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could replace Sanchez in Arsenal if Wenger bids €60 million. The striker wants to leave Dortmund but Real Madrid are not interested, even though he’s said multiple times that he would be keen on a move to the Spanish capital.
All in all, it now seems that Zidane’s wishes will come true. The French coach said he doesn’t want new players this winter and apparently Madrid will not bring goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in when they were set to trigger his €20 million release clause with Athletic.
