Former Real Madrid player Serena passes away

Real Madrid published a statement announcing that former player Fernando Rodriguez Serena has passed away.

Fernando Rodríguez Serena, who played for Real Madrid between 1963 and 1968, has died at 77 years of age. For the Whites, he won 1 European Cup and 4 leagues, playing 86 games in which he scored 15 goals. The name of Serena went in to the Real Madrid history books thanks to his goal in the final against Partizan when winning the sixth European Cup. His well-placed shot from distance made it 2-1 in the final, completing the Whites’ comeback in Brussels. Real Madrid share the pain of his family and would also like to share their condolences for his death.

Serena was a right winger whose quickness and ability to cross the ball was extremely valuable for Real Madrid. He also played one game for the Spanish national team in 1963, his only cap for the country.
