Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier shared his thoughts on the very strong tackle —perhaps even a bit dirty— he made on Sergio Ramos during England’s 3-2 win against Spain this week.
“Ramos is one of the world’s greatest, he truly is. He does everything welll but at the same time he doesn’t back down and is very tough, he’s a great example of a defender who does that and we have to play the same way,” said Dier.
“We have to be aggressive and show that we won’t back down. That’s equally as important as playing well and everything else,” he added. “Once the game has started, everyone is about their business and you just have to go for it and be aggressive,” he concluded.
Dier could’ve easily hurt Ramos with that tackle, something which isn’t nice to see in that kind of game. While Dier is not lying about needing to be aggressive in a competitive game, it’s also true that those tackles should only happen in serious games.
