Real Madrid president Florentino Perez called former Juventus and Chelsea coach Antonio Conte to see if he would be willing to replace Julen Lopetegui if Los Blancos can’t find their groove in their next three games —Levante, Viktoria Plzen and El Clasico against Barcelona—. This report was published by Italian newspaper Il Corriere Dello Sport.
Il Corriere usually has good sources within Juventus, so they are probably somewhat reliable with this report. Lopetegui’s spot appears to be in question after the last four games and it seems reasonable to consider Conte a potential candidate to replace the Spanish coach. However, it would be a bit premature to fire Lopetegui just a few months into the season. Real Madrid are still very much in the race for La Liga title and even though there have been some discouraging results lately, only some abysmal performances in the upcoming games will get Lopetegui sacked.
