Besiktas president says they will let Guti coach Real Madrid if he’s called

Could he be Real Madrid’s next coach?

Besiktas president Fikret Orman said today that Real Madrid legend Guti Hernandez will be free to leave the Turkish club if Madrid decide he’s the one who should replace Lopetegui if the current coach ends up getting sacked.

“Nobody has called us about Guti so far, we don’t know anything but if we do receive some kind of permission we will be happy about it,” said Orman. “If Guti goes back to Madrid we would be very proud. He deserves that spot, we wanted him with us last year already,” he added about Guti, who is now an assistant coach for Besiktas.

Guti was a candidate to coach Castilla this season but the club decided to keep Santi Solari instead, so he decided to leave and improve his resume before potentially making a return to the white house. He has not coached at a professional level just yet, so it could be premature to appoint him as Lopetegui’s replacement even if the latter is sacked some time soon.
