The Julen Lopetegui era has come to an end just three months into the season. Real Madrid have officially sacked the Spanish coach after the embarrassing 5-1 loss to FC Barcelona in El Clasico this Sunday and a catastrophic month of October.
Lopetegui failed to meet minimum expectations and the team is already seven points behind Barcelona in La Liga table. Los Blancos sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus and while some fans and analysts predicted that it would not be easy for Madrid to find a reliable and consistent way to score, the results and overall performances by the team have been abysmal so far.
Real Madrid have appointed Santiago Solari, who was coaching Castilla until this point, as the interim coach of the first team. Some reports suggested that Antonio Conte was going to replace Lopetegui, but it seems that Solari could be given the chance to finish the season for Madrid.
